This week I’m joined by Lexi Rute.
Lexi is a communication studies student at Northampton Community College. She is also a student in the Publishing for Writers specialized diploma. She plans to transfer to a four-year school and pursue a degree in writing, literature, and publishing. She's working on her first novel--a crossover historical romance set in medieval times. In her free time, she reads more books than her bank account allows.

Ava is a typical seventeen-year-old dealing with everyday teenage problems. A job opportunity for
her father takes her parents overseas. Not wanting to move, she accepts her grandmother's offer to let her live with her, until her parents return.
On her first day at school in the new town, she meets Jared Walker-tall, dark and gorgeous, with an ego to match. Ava soon discovers that there is more to him than meets the eye. He is hiding a secret that will pull her into his world and put her life in danger.

So, diving right into the book, the story is told by the main character, Ava's, point of view. For me, there seemed to be somewhat of a slow startup in chapters one and two. Chapter three is very pivotal to me when I read a book. If nothing in your book catches my interest by chapter three then I will stop reading it, but chapter three of Archaic made me not want to put the book down from there on out. You see, Ava can be a bit nosy. This quality is what led her to be wrapped up the complications that Jared Walker seems to bring. She sees Jared shoot a white light streak, out of the palm of his hand, at someone in a forest. Jared saw Ava hiding in a bush watching the showdown between him and his kind's enemy. Jared's an Archaic. Similar to Melissa Koberlein's Fireflies trilogy, humans were somewhat changed by the effects of a fallen meteor. The difference is that it created this illness in this village and changed the offspring of the humans who came into contact with the meteor. There are two types of changed humans: the Archaic and the Hue. The Archaic are the good guys. They heal fast and can harness energy to shoot streaks of light out of their palms. The Hue are emotionless because their human side is limited. They all look creepily alike and the first description of them kinda gave me chills. They are all very pale with blonde hair and blue eyes, but I seemed to imagine them looking kinda ghostly or deathly as I read. The book summary says to remember Ava because she will never be the same. Oh boy, is that right! After an unfortunate meeting with a Hue, it seems Ava is becoming less and less human...more and more emotionless. I have to say that the book really keeps your interest with a race against the clock to save Ava's now endangered life, steaminess between Jared and Ava, and uncovering Jared’s family secrets. It was so good that I already purchased the second one and I can't wait to read it. I'd say that it should be on the list for paranormal romance lovers. It is, however, the kind of book that wouldn't be a good read unless you like romance. There is one funny scene in the beginning, but the book has more of a serious dramatic setting. At 242 pages, there isn't a whole lot not to love!
